DIVERSITY

Avicennia

Sonneratia

Rhizophora

Bruguiera

Mangrove trees are salt tolerant plants. They are also known as Halophytes. The four main species of mangroves- Avicennia, Sonneratia, Rhizophora and Bruguiera. Mangroves are also basically survivor plants. With roots that are submerged in water half of the time, these plants thrive in hot, muddy conditions, which will kill most of the other plants. So they have different roots that will keep them upright and these roots allow each mangrove plant to absorb nutrients in the rich muddy soil.

DENSITY

Mangrove forests are dense and luxuriant due to high temperatures and rainfall. They also form a continuous canopy to compete for sunlight. As a result, the undergrowth is sparse. This means that the undergrowth area would be very barred from vegetation.
